Senator Scott Hutchinson issued the following statement following today’s joint session of the General Assembly to receive the Governor’s 2020-21 budget proposal.

Senator Scott Hutchinson joined with residents and family members of Polk and White Haven State Centers in the State Capitol on Tuesday (January 21) to announce the filing of a federal lawsuit against Governor Wolf and Human Services Secretary Teresa Miller to protect the rights of residents to stay in those facilities.

A group of legislators and stakeholders held a rally Capitol Main Rotunda to announce a lawsuit against Governor Wolf on the proposed closures of Polk and White Haven state centers.  

The Senate today (November 18) passed legislation that establishes a moratorium on closing the Polk and White Haven State Centers, according to Senator Scott Hutchinson, a co-sponsor and strong supporter of the bill. Listen

“I am pleased we were able to put together a responsible and prudent spending plan which holds the line on taxes. Additionally, for the first time in a long time, we were able to set aside a substantial amount in the Rainy Day Fund for the inevitable time when the economy turns down.  This budget spends less than the Governor proposed while transferring at least $250 million to the Rainy Day fund.”
